Job Description

4 Year PhD Programme
- Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology, Edinburgh, UK

Description: The Wellcome Trust Centre, at the University houses research groups with an interest in Centromeres, Cell Cycle, Chromosome Biology, Chromatin, Chromosome Proteomics, Chromosome Structure, Development, DNA Methylation, DNA Replication, Gene Silencing, Mitosis, Meiosis, Non-Coding RNA, Nuclear Architecture, RNA processing, and Telomeres.

The aim of this programme is to train students in cutting-edge cell biology - the study of cellular structure and function from the level of molecules to that of organisms.

Qualifications: BSc or equivalent with first or upper second class honours in a relevant subject. While most of the successful candidates will have a strong background in molecular life sciences (Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Molecular Biology/Genetics, Cell Biology), exceptionally motivated students from other scientific branches (e.g. Physics, Chemistry) with a strong interest for life sciences will also be considered. Note that eligibility for this programme will normally be restricted to citizens of EU countries, as funding from the Wellcome Trust does not cover the much higher (approximately £10,000) University fees for non-EU students.

Salary Details: A student stipend will be provided for four years: £17,442 in the first year rising to £19,230 for years three and four. Research costs and tuition fees at the home/EU rate are provided. Funds will also be available for travel and training.
